Enforcement action: MAS, its key public enforcement actions for July to September 2026.

MAS issued four prohibition orders in the quarter, each after a conviction in the State Courts. A former representative of an insurer received a 10-year order after convictions for cheating. A former representative and unit manager of a financial adviser firm received a 6-year order after convictions for forgery and offences under the Computer Misuse Act. Two former representatives of a bank received orders of 5 and 4 years after separate convictions for forgery. MAS also charged a moneychanger for failing to comply with a direction on complaints handling, and charged its director and compliance manager.

MAS states its approach plainly: in choosing the type of enforcement action, it takes into account the need to deter similar misconduct.

What this means for a Singapore SME

All four orders concern former representatives of financial institutions - an insurer, a financial adviser firm and a bank - and each order runs for the years MAS set: 10, 6, 5 and 4. Every one followed a criminal conviction, which is the point for a business: the misconduct had already reached the courts before the regulator's order. Before relying on anyone for cover or advice, a business can check the firm on MAS's Financial Institutions Directory, which lists the firms MAS regulates and the regulated activities each is authorised to provide, and the person on MAS's Financial Institution Representatives Register, which shows whether an individual is listed as a representative.
